Yep. I’m a cop out. This is the “image of the day”. and it’s a view of the Roman Forum. I think you can see St. Peter’s dome right over there. Nifty. When I see this, I think of that evocative photograph that some famous magazine took of Cardinal George just after Pope Benedict got Elected.  They asked him what thoughts went through his mind when he was looking out over the city, and he said, (paraphrased from memory) “Those buildings over there were built to last forever. Those kings of the biggest empire in the world–an empire designed to last forever– killed Christians to nip a little cult in the bud before it got big.  I was thinking, “Cesar, where are your legions now?”

This guy has been through a lot. Not only was he a missionary priest in some pretty unpleasant places, and risked life and limb on several occasions, but he’s been fighting the good fight at home, too.  He survived kidney cancer, and went into remission, and now still serves the Chicago Diocese admirably. This is not an easy task. I’m happy to report that they are hosting the sort of liturgy you’d expect from a Cathedral. I keep hearing that the parish has lost parishioners because of this. Yet, recently the pews are fuller for some reason.  Hmmm. Wonder why? 😉
